The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Osun State Chapter has charged Youth to rise up and take more responsibilities in nation.

In a press briefing to commemorate 2020 International Youth Day (IYD), in Osogbo, Saturdat, Chairman NYCN Osun State, Comrade Abdulazeez Ismail Abiodun commended President Muhammadu Buhari and the State Governor, Alh Adegboyega Oyetola’s leadership in tackling the Coronavirus pandemic.

August 12th of every year is stipulated by the United Nations (UN) as world International Youth Day. This year international youth day is tagged with the theme “Youth Engagement for Global Action”. With the theme, it is obvious that our youth has not been carried along in Global development, reasons which may not be far-fetched.

The NYCN State Chairman explained that “before the adherent of the deadly pandemic COVID -19 lockdown imposed on the Country, we have embarked on an ICT training as National Youth council of the state where youths across the State are trained on Graphic Design, Programming and Web Design, the lockdown affected this, but the online approach was adopted towards ensuring our youths are actively engaged.

He added “during this pandemic period of Covid -19, it will interest you that various youths and youth organisations went on the street to engage the public on the awareness of the virus and also sensitize them on the need for prevention in order to avoid public/widespread of the virus.

Comrade Abiodun continued “Majority of the youth organisations and NGOs also went as far as providing relief materials to the public during the lockdown for the deadly virus which does not limit to the distribution of nose mask, hand sanitizers, soaps and provision of running water to public spaces among other things.

“Although it is also pertinent to inform you that some youth were also waiting patiently to see the end of the virus without taking action not even on personal or community development.

“The National Youth Council of Nigeria has never and will never stop taking responsibilities of community and youth development as its only major way of having a more secured environment. And on this note, we update the general public of our activities and to also roll out our event for this year international youth day.

“A Yoruba proverbs/adage says “Ku ise lo n mu oriya” (Meaning that when you appreciate people that have made a positive impact, they tend to do more) and it is on that note we have arranged to appreciate those who have contributed immensely to the growth and development of the youth in our dear state and this is done by rolling out a link to the public for recommendation among which Hundreds were nominated to be beneficiary of the youth award.

“A visionless youth will never know how to plan nor prepare, we have also decided to break the jinx of not having written voice of the youth and seems to be a major setback in youth development as many don’t even see seriousness on the path of the youth.

“Therefore, I am glad to inform the general public that immense work has went on the Osun Youth Magazine tagged “Voice of The Youths Magazine”. It is an encompassing print media document which does not leave behind the achievement of youths, government success, opportunities for the youths among others. Hence, the magazine shall be launched by the Executive Governor of the State of Osun while other dignitaries will also follow suit at the presentation of the award.

“Constitutionally, The Governor of the State is expected to be conferred as the Grand Patron of Osun Youth and we sincerely appreciate our dogged Commissioner and the Coordinating Director for their efforts to ensure the constitutional requirement come to reality this year as we shall also confer on the first lady the Grand Patroness of Osun Youth, all as part of this year 2020 international youth week”
